Measures of household income and poverty are used to determine eligibility for many federal and state programs. This policy brief identifies various poverty measures in use today and compares the income levels to South Carolina's current self support reserve for noncustodial parents paying child support. This policy brief was prepared for the Family Court Study Subcommittee of the Senate Judiciary Committee of the South Carolina General Assembly, which was reconsidering the level of the self support reserve in the fall of 2005.
